An overview of the consultation
Libraries Tasmania, with the support of the 26Ten Coalition, is leading this consultation process to guide ongoing work to improve adult literacy rates.
Information on the adult literacy environment in Tasmania and guiding questions for the consultation process can be found in the Consultation Paper – Tasmania’s Next Adult Literacy Strategy. Key elements of this paper are summarised below.
The development of an updated Adult Literacy Strategy is a commitment in the Lifting Literacy Implementation Plans 2024-2026 of the Department of Premier and Cabinet and the Department for Education, Children and Young People, in support of Tasmania’s Lifting Literacy plan.
Under its first ten-year strategy, 26TEN Tasmania: Tasmania’s Strategy for Adult Literacy and Numeracy: 2016 – 2025, the 26Ten network of member organisations and individuals committed to improving adult literacy rates across Tasmania. This commitment has resulted in many successes and has strengthened the understanding of the adult literacy environment in Tasmania.
The 26Ten Background Paper, developed by 3P Advisory, provides additional information about adult literacy in Tasmania.

- The finalised strategy will be announced later in 2025
