There are two roles for volunteers.

Adult Literacy Tutors support adult learners to improve their literacy, numeracy and digital skills with one-on-one tutoring.

To be an Adult Literacy Tutor you will need to complete relevant training, for example the TasTAFE Tutor Adult Literacy Learner course, free for all Tasmanians.

You can volunteer with the Libraries Tasmania Adult Literacy Service or in one of the five 26Ten Communities:

  • Glenorchy
  • Huon Valley
  • Launceston Northern Suburbs
  • Clarence Plains
  • Circular Head

As an Adult Literacy Tutor volunteer, you will be matched with an adult learner in a community setting, such as a local library or neighbourhood house. You will meet with the learner at an agreed time and work alongside them to improve their reading, writing, maths and / or digital skills. Each learner is unique and has their own challenges that volunteer tutors help to resolve.

Administrative support in the 26Ten office

Administration volunteers support the 26Ten team to implement the Statewide strategy.

As a volunteer in the 26Ten office, you might process enquiries about grants, contact 26Ten members, restock merchandise or support us to run events. 26Ten team members will provide support and make you welcome in our friendly and busy office.
