26TEN - making progress and our next steps

We're making a difference

The 26TEN Tasmania Strategy sets out how we tackle adult literacy and numeracy in the State for the ten years between 2015 and 2025. It highlights that to make a real difference business, community groups, government, education and training providers and individuals all need to work together.

We report on progress against the Strategy each year and the 2017 Progress Report has just been released. It shows we are tracking toward all the goals of the Strategy, including being over-target on the number of members and supporters, increased awareness in the community about adult literacy and numeracy, and strong uptake of plain English across all sectors.

Thousands of Tasmanians have engaged in programs to build their literacy skills and 26TEN has collaborated with many other programs and organisations to increase the impact of our actions.

The plan for building literacy and numeracy 2018-2020

Collaboration is key to making progress on our goals in the next three years. If we want to live in a state where all adults have the reading, writing, numeracy and communications skills they need for life then we must work together.

The 2018-2020 Action Plan prioritises collaboration between business, community groups, government, education and training providers and individuals. We will focus on:

  • expanding the choices for Tasmanians who seek support to lift their literacy and numeracy skills
  • encouraging members and supporters to be more actively engaged to build sustainability of the strategy
  • developing new tools to support people to seek help and those who provide help.

We will also be planning for the mid-point review of the 26TEN Tasmania Strategy.
