Big plans for working together: 26TEN's Huon Community
Geeveston
Community Centre applied for a grant to establish the Huon as a 26TEN
Community early in 2015. They plan to increase understanding about
literacy in Dover, Geeveston, Franklin, Cygnet and Huonville by engaging
with businesses, community groups and individuals.
They also
plan to build skills in the community by training volunteer literacy
tutors in each of the five townships. Once the tutors are trained and
are given resources they will be matched with people in the community
who want support with reading, writing or maths.
The 26TEN
Community will also participate in events, meetings and activities to
explain how low literacy affects individuals, workplaces and townships.
They will also use local media to let people know what can be done if we
all work together.
We are looking forward to hearing more!
